When your manager only knew about MS Office

Ask 6 questions when you are looking for pen-testing/technical jobs.

These questions were forged in hell fire a few years ago.

I now ask them during EVERY interview and have never been happier:

  1. Is the team (including the manager) technical?
  2. Will the company support my growth? (e.g., sponsorship for reputable training/conferences)
  3. Will I be in non-technical meetings <20% of the time?
  4. Does the company have existing tools to streamline repetitive tasks? (e.g., pen-test reports)?
  5. Do I like their working arrangement? (e.g., onsite/hybrid/remote)
  6. Do I like their working hours? (e.g., overtime?/non-office hours?/9-6)

If "Yes" for:

  • 0-2 items: JUST. RUN.
  • 3-4 items: Can give it a try if you like your future teammates.
  • 5-6 items: Take it! But make sure it's not a scam!
🤕
I understand not everyone can be "picky" at times. But you can always keep searching and seize the next chance. Don't let yourself regret not trying.

P.S. What else would you consider before taking up an offer? (apart from the benefits)
